Mountains is an experimental play (conceived in the summer of 2020) featuring a cast of maladapted archetypes portrayed by performers wearing Papier-mâché animal and other-worldly creature heads. Their identity crises and struggles with social alienation are unpacked through soap operatic, unabashedly moralistic sagas. Live-directing the every move of these tragicomedic creatures (referred to as puppets) is The Dictator — the inner child trying to understand the emotional landscape of the adult world around her by reenacting it with her puppets. The Dictator’s heavy-handed live-direction functions as a pathologizing narration of the puppet drama, inserting a meta-conversation around identity, power, and free will.
Mountains reminds us that the work of building a [nurturing] society is essentially infinite; there is a job for everyone
